Do you carry ______ brand?
A listing of all the brands we DO carry can be found here. A few of the more popular brands that we don’t carry include: Centenary Collection (taupes); Cosmo threads (a division of Lecien); Echino (a division of Kokka); Imperial Collection; Kiohara; Kona Bay (discontinued); Lecien; Nani Iro (a division of Kokka); Westex; Yoko Saito Quilt Party; Yuwa.
Do you have botanical indigo?
We wholesale very few items dyed with botanical indigo. It is hard to import from Japan in quantity, is very expensive, and is inherently a difficult dyed good for the untrained customer.
What sashiko (or related) books do you carry?
What sashiko (or kogin or visible mending) books do you recommend?
We do not wholesale any sashiko or kogin books right now. We hope to add them in the future.
For book recommendations, we highly recommend Susan Briscoe’s The Ultimate Kogin Collection and The Ultimate Sashiko Sourcebook.
How long does it take to receive my fabric?
We sell fabric primarily on a pre-order basis. It can take 3-6 months to receive your pre-order, depending on how closely your sales order matches our delivery schedule. For the shortest possible delay, place your order by the middle of the month in February/May/August/October. (Note: supply chain delays continue in 2022; these disruptions have resulted in longer lead times from Japan, and less ability for us to predict which fabrics will be released on schedule.)
How often do you ship fabrics?
For pre-orders, we ship to you 4 times a year: approximately February/May/August/November.
How do I see fabrics from your warehouse?
You can see many warehouse fabrics in an Instagram account maintained specifically for this purpose @OI_Instock . We also schedule virtual warehouse tours (if you are not local to the San Francisco area).
What is the minimum number of items to order?
To establish an account, we have a $500 minimum opening order. To ship fabric, we require 5 or more bolts at a time. Notions reorders, for established customers, must be $50 or more. More information is in our Wholesale Terms & Conditions (see below).
How do you ship?
We ship primarily via USPS or UPS. We are willing to work with the carrier of your choice. Shipping costs are your responsibility.
What are your payment terms?
For your first order, we require payment at the time the order is ready to ship to you. Customers in good standing may request NET 30 terms. For reorders under $500, we also request payment at the time of shipping.
Can I re-order a popular fabric?
Due to long lead times and our shipping schedule, fabric re-orders are tricky. We do offer catalogs of re-orderable fabrics, popular indigo-type designs, solids and yarn-dyes; these can be ordered over multiple seasons. Sevenberry, Senyo, Morikiku and Yamaoka are the brands that are easiest for us to re-order. See re-orderable fabric swatches in our catalogs.
do you offer any pre-cut fabrics?
From time-to-time, Japanese manufacturers will have precut fabrics. As of spring 2022, we have a charm pack (5” squares) from Junko Matsuda Collection and a precut strip roll (2-1/2” wide) of yarn-dye fabrics from Cosmo.
I’ve never heard of these fabric companies. who are they?
We love the small, boutique nature of many of the Japanese fabric manufacturers. When we visit their showrooms and meet their designers, we really feel how special and niche their offerings can be.
